چکیده
Introduction This paper describes studies of the preparation and characterization of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the adsorption of an @-mercaptoalkylboronic acid, 1l-mercaptoundecanyl-l-boronic acid, 1, onto a gold substrate. This work is part of a program to study the physicalorganic chemistry of organic interfaces.2 SAMs of alkanethiolates on gold are particularly useful substrates for studying organic surface chemistry because the high affinity of sulfur for gold3-6 allows the incorporation of a wide range of tail groups, X, into precursor alkanethiols ofthe general formula HS(CH2)"X.7-15 SAMs of alkanethiolates on gold are useful model systems in fundamental studies of electrochemistry,lG protein ad-

Control of the Specific Adsorption of Proteins onto Gold Surfaces with Poly( L-lysine) Monolayers
Monolayers of the polypeptide poly(L-lysine) (PL) are used to control the specific adsorption of proteins onto gold surfaces. A PL monolayer modified with biotin is electrostatically adsorbed onto a vapor-deposited gold Eilm that has been coated with a self-assembled monolayer of the alkanethiol 1 1-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA). The immobilized biotin moieties act as specific adsorption sites ...
متن کاملProbing protein adsorption onto mercaptoundecanoic acid stabilized gold nanoparticles and surfaces by quartz crystal microbalance and zeta-potential measurements.
The adsorption characteristics of three proteins [bovine serum albumin (BSA), myoglobin (Mb), and cytochrome c (CytC)] onto self-assembled monolayers of mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) on both gold nanoparticles (AuNP) and gold surfaces (Au) are described. The combination of quartz crystal microbalance measurements with dissipation (QCM-D) and pH titrations of the zeta-potential provide informati...
متن کاملThiol-ene immobilisation of carbohydrates onto glass slides as a simple alternative to gold-thiol monolayers, amines or lipid binding.
Carbohydrate arrays are a vital tool in studying infection, probing the mechanisms of bacterial, viral and toxin adhesion and the development of new treatments, by mimicking the structure of the glycocalyx. Current methods rely on the formation of monolayers of carbohydrates that have been chemically modified with a linker to enable interaction with a functionalised surface. This includes amine...
متن کاملSelective and stable adhesion of Yeast cells to Boronate-containing Polymer Grafted to glass Supports
A series of sorbents containing various amounts of borate groups were prepared by chemical immobilization ofP-aminoethylphenylboric acid on a copolymer- treated organosilane spacer glass plates. It was found thatbaker's yeast cells selectively adhered to these supports. Yeast cells stained with procion red HE-3B formeddenser and more stable layer on the copolymer-grafted supports compared onto ...
متن کاملAdsorption of Proteins onto Surfaces Containing End-Attached Oligo( ethylene oxide): A Model System Using Self-Assembled Monolayers
This paper reports a study of the adsorption of four proteins-fibrinogen, lysozyme, pyruvate kinase, and RNAse A-to self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold. The SAMs examined were derived from thiols of the structure HS(CH2)loR, where R was CH3, CHzOH, and oligo(ethy1eneoxide). Monolayers that contained a sufficiently large mole fraction of alkanethiolate groups terminated in oligo(ethy1eneoxi...
